Erix will collaborate with the J/70 Italian Class to organize the second leg.

Having previously hosted two legs of the Italian J/70 Championship, Lerici celebrated the successes of Sofia Giondi’s Wanderlust, winner in 2023 just a few months before her European triumph, and Luca Domenici’s Notaro Team, continental champion in Monte Carlo in 2015, who won in Liguria in 2024.

The Gulf of Poets offers a race course full of tactical pitfalls and well known to J/70 specialists, who will compete for victory between Friday and Sunday, faced with forecasted unsettled weather.

Eight races are scheduled for a fleet that, compared to the first leg, despite the absence of two top players like Rowdy and Matteo Marenghi Vaselli’s g-Spot, will be larger and include representatives from eight nations. Under special observation will be Mauro Roversi’s J-Curve, who will count as always on the support of Giulia Conti, with Furio’s Americans, led by former J/24 world champion Keith Whitttemore, Manfredo Toninelli’s T.One, and the substantial Cornthian White Hawk all likely to be among the favorites.

The side events program demonstrates the excellent hospitality guaranteed by C.D.V. Erix, which, in addition to the after-race parties, will organize a crew dinner and a tasting of Gin Vento, a partner of the J/70 Italian Class for several seasons, during the weekend.

“Lerici, with its C.D.V. Erix, chaired by Carlo Stefanini, has been a key venue for the J/70 Italian Class for several seasons now. In these parts, which boast unique landscapes, the organizational skills are top-notch, and the welcome we’ve always received has rarely been matched. Added to this is a race course that has proven to be so challenging that every race is uncertain right up to the finish line. This is a choice that our owners also appreciate, as evidenced by the rapidly expanding entry list,” commented Federico Siragna, president of the J/70 Italian Class.

“This year, we are once again pleased to organize the J/70 class regattas, which will count toward the second stage of the 2026 J/70 Cup, and we expect to see competitive racing with top-level crews. On behalf of myself and our members, I am honored that such a prestigious one-design class has once again chosen Lerici and the Circolo Della Vela Erix for this event. Race officials, staff, and volunteers are eagerly awaiting,” commented Carlo Stefanini, President of the Erix Sailing Club.

The J/70 Italian Class, which uses the Vakaros RaceSense system to manage starts, is supported by Lincoln International, Garmin, VelaMania, North Sails Collection, UtilGraph, Gottifredi Maffioli, and Gin Vento.

For information and rankings, click here.

Lerici – Exactly one month after the inaugural leg, hosted at Marina di Scarlino by the Yacht Club Toscana and concluded with the victory of American Richard Witzel with Rowdy (Overall) and Gianfranco Noè with White Hawk (Corinthian), the J/70 fleet will gather again in Lerici where, between Friday and Sunday, the local C.D.V.
