Marina di Scarlino – Racing continues uninterrupted at Marina di Scarlino, where the J/70 Italian Class and the Yacht Club Toscana are organizing the first stage of the 2026 J/70 Cup, an event featuring around twenty boats and managed by PRO Claudio Tosi.
Today, taking advantage of a southwest breeze that blew steadily just under ten knots, confirming the quality of the Tuscan race course, three races were completed, counting towards the overall standings and the special classification reserved for the Garmin Trophy.
Richard Witzel’s Rowdy (1-2-1), shining, gaining positions on the early leader J-Curve (today 3-4-2) until finally reaching the lead, was the protagonist of a nearly perfect day and winner of the Garmin watch up for grabs. Joining the leading pair, thanks to a flawless run so far, is Matteo Marenghi Vaselli’s gSpot (2-1-3).
The three boats in the lead boast a comfortable lead over the fourth-place finisher, Gianfranco Noé’s White Hawk (5-5-6), the best Corinthian team. Rounding out the top five is Manfredo Toninelli with his T-One (6-7-7), currently the best performer among the One Pro teams. Stefano Roberti’s Piccinina leads the Mixed Plus and One Pro grouping.
The day concluded with the first Crew Party of the season, hosted by the Yacht Club Toscana, and a tasting of Gin Vento, a longtime partner of the J/70 Cup.
Tomorrow, for the final day, the team returns to the water starting at 12 o’clock with the goal of completing the remaining two races. The first leg of the 2026 J/70 Cup will conclude this afternoon with the awards ceremony, scheduled to take place at the clubhouse of the club chaired by Ettore Mattiello.
The J/70 Italian Class is supported by Lincoln International, Garmin, VelaMania, North Sails Collection, UtilGraph, Gottifredi Maffioli, and Gin Vento.
