Marina di Scarlino – The program was complete at Marina di Scarlino, where the first day of the opening leg of the 2026 J/70 Cup, organized by the J/70 Italian Class in collaboration with the Yacht Club Toscana chaired by Ettore Mattiello, concluded with a total of three valid races.
Coordinated without delay by PRO Carlo Tosi, the races were held in northwest breezes, which increased from 6 knots in the first race to double-digits as the hours passed.
It was a positive day for Mauro Roversi’s J-Curve (1-6-1), who, counting on the pair of Giulia Conti and Stefano Cherin, secured a double bullet that propelled them to the provisional lead of the standings by two points over Wildcard’s Corinthians (6-1-3), led by Andrew Creighton to victory in the second race.
The virtual podium is completed by g-Spot (2-3-5) by Matteo Marenghi Vaselli and tactician Karlo Hmelijak: fresh winners of the Primo Cup in Monte Carlo, they share the top spot with the aforementioned Wildcard.
Manfredi Toninelli’s T-One, four points off the top spot, and Richard Witzel’s Rowdy, winners of the 2024 J/70 Cup, occupy the top five. To find the second Corinthian, Gianfranco Noé’s White Hawk, you have to scroll down the rankings to sixth place, while the best Mixed Plus team is Stefano Roberti’s Piccinina, currently seventh.
The first leg of the 2026 J/70 Cup will resume late tomorrow morning with the aim of completing three more races. Afterwards, the crews will be guests of the Yacht Club Toscana for the eagerly awaited first Crew Party of the season, followed by a tasting of Gin Vento, a longtime partner of the J/70 Cup.
The J/70 Italian Class is supported by Lincoln International, Garmin, VelaMania, North Sails Collection, UtilGraph, Gottifredi Maffioli, and Gin Vento.
