The J/70 fleet restarts from Livorno and from the Accademia Navale’s Settimana Velica Internazionale

Riva del Garda – Three weeks before the first seasonal event, scheduled for May 2-4 in Livorno, the fleet starring in the J/70 Cup 2025 is in a state of great excitement: these are the days of fine tuning, of the final preparations, followed by the usual questions, typical for each crew, about the actual state of form of their team and their ability, or otherwise, to live up to expectations, which vary depending on the case.

Questions that will find their first answers between the buoys of the International Sailing Week of the Naval Academy, an event that, now in its forty-second year, is experiencing a period of restoration and relaunch, aimed at bringing it back to the glories of the past when, in the 80s and 90s, it was considered a reference event for the Italian offshore movement.

An event of certain prestige for the first of 2025, on a regatta field that has been the scene of many important duels and that has contributed to stopping generations of sailors, to be prepared, if desired, by taking part in the Chica Loca, a regatta organized by the Yacht Club Livorno on the weekend before the International Sailing Week of the Naval Academy, on the same day in which, also from Livorno, the RAN 630, a prestigious and selective offshore regatta, will start.

Added to this is the curiosity to verify the new composition of the fleet and the balance of power in them six months after the last trials valid for the J/70 Cup 2024 won, we remember, by the Americans of Rowdy, led by Richard Witzel.

“As J/70 Italian Class we feel honored to have been chosen to give our contribution to the relaunch of an event like the International Sailing Week of the Naval Academy which, for many years, has been a reference regatta for athletes, professionals and enthusiasts: I think there are few sailors active in those years who have not taken part at least once in the legendary TAN. It is a partnership in which we believe and which we think can help us to confirm the J/70 class as one of the most active and numerous at an international level, as has been certified by the fifty-four participants in the recent Corinthian European Championship, held on the challenging Cascais regatta course – explains the president of J/70 Italian Class Federico Siragna who adds – More generally, we are preparing to experience a new exciting season, which will reach its peak at the end of June with the first Mixed Plus World Championship scheduled at the Circolo Vela Torbole, an event that is already recording important, even unexpected, numbers. These are activities that we could not carry out without the support of the owners and our partners, which this year also include a prestigious new entry such as North Sails with its new clothing line”.

In underlining that registrations for the International Sailing Week of the Naval Academy are open, and that in a few hours the entry list has reached about twenty members, we remind you that, after the Livorno leg, the J/70 Cup 2025 will continue with the events of Malcesine (23-25 ??May), Riva del Garda (18-20 July) and Imperia-Porto Maurizio (3-5 October), which will also be valid as the Italian Absolute Championship. Not valid for the purposes of the circuit, but still organized by J/70 Italian Class will be the aforementioned J/70 Mixed Plus World Championship, scheduled in Torbole between 26 and 29 June and which already has about fifty members.

We remind you that the 2025 season of J/70 Italian Class is supported by Lincoln International, Gottifredi Maffioli, Garmin, VelaMania, North Sails, UtilGraph, Gin Vento and Cantine Tinazzi.
