Porto Cervo – With the major international events now behind us, following the victories of Spain’s Hang Ten at the European Championship in Barcelona and Brazil’s Viking Oceanpact at the World Championship in Cascais, the J/70 Class now turns its attention back to the continental circuits. The most important of these, the J/70 Cup organized by the J/70 Italian Class, is just two weeks away from its conclusion.

The final event will take place in Porto Cervo from October 2 to 4, hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, almost a decade after the last appearance in Gallura of this one-design class, produced by J/Composites in more than 2,000 units and distributed worldwide.

Around twenty crews are ready to return to the racecourse that hosted the record-breaking 2017 World Championship, an event that went down in history with more than 160 entries. The same venue has been chosen for the 2028 World Championship, when the fleet will be capped at 198 boats.

Among the announced protagonists of this double-value event – the final stage of the 2026 J/70 Cup and the J/70 Italian Championship – are overall J-Curve series leader Mauro Roversi and Tenzor Team, led by Andrey Pushkin, who won the Lerici event by a clear margin. Also looking to play a leading role will be T-One, led by Manfredo Toninelli, Australia’s Swish, helmed by Steven Proud, and Jeniale CAIM, led by Massimo Rama. Currently second in the Corinthian division, Jeniale CAIM is waiting for registration to close to find out whether Corinthian leader Wildcard, led by Harry Twomey, will also be on the starting line.

“Having around twenty crews from seven nations in Porto Cervo at the beginning of October, at the end of a season that started five months ago and whose summer calendar had to make room for the European and World Championships, is a number that satisfies us and supports our decision to return to Gallura,” explains Federico Siragna, President of the J/70 Italian Class. “We will effectively bring the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda’s racing calendar to a close – a club that is among the most famous in the world and needs no introduction. All that remains is to hope for favorable weather conditions and make the 2026 J/70 Italian Championship the most iconic ever.”

The J/70 Italian Class, which uses Vakaros’ RaceSense system to manage starting sequences, is supported by Lincoln International, Garmin, VelaMania, North Sails Collection, UtilGraph, Gottifredi Maffioli and Gin Vento.
